sci congress 2024In August 2024, the results of LEVANTE project were showed at the XXVIII National Congress of Italian Chemical Society (SCI) at Milan where the research units presented their results and findings both orally and as posters. Specifically, the Principal Investigator Claudia Antonetti (UNIPI) delivered the oral presentation “Ad-hoc synthesized catalysts and commercial ones: their catalytic applications in the perspective of sustainability”, highlighting the promising results achieved in the synthesis of biomass-derived catalysts and demonstrating the strong effort to promoting sustainability and circular economy. On this occasion, Prof. Claudia Antonetti was awarded the Gian Paolo Chiusoli Medal 2024. This prestigious recognition, established by the Italian Chemical Society at the initiative of the Industrial Chemistry Division and the Interdivisional Catalysis Group, is granted to Italian scientists no older than 45 years, working in research centers, both academic and industrial, for contributions of particular scientific, innovative or practical significance in the field of catalysis. Prof. Claudia Antonetti was honored for her research work focused on the synthesis, characterization, and application of ad-hoc prepared catalysts in industrially relevant reactions, including the biomass-derived catalysts studied within the LEVANTE Project, as well as on the optimization of catalytic processes aimed at the valorization of biomass, even from waste, always placing great emphasis on sustainability. The research unit in Napoli presented their accomplished results in the oral presentation “Solvent-free condensation of ethyl levulinate with phenol promoted by Amberlyst-15: kinetics and modeling” about the production of diphenolic esters with commercial catalysts. Finally, the research unit in Bologna shows the valorization of levulinate esters through continuous processes in the gas phase with the oral presentation “Levulinate esters valorization: the production of γ-valerolactone and consecutive products through an innovative gas-phase continuous flow process”, carried out in collaboration with CNR-SCITEC Milano.
