During 3-6 September 2023, the results of LEVANTE project were showed at the 6th EuChemS Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry www.6eugsc.org in Salerno, important event supported by the LEVANTE project. In particular, the Principal Investigator Claudia Antonetti (UNIPI) delivered the oral presentation “Biomass-derived acid catalysts for the sustainable production of diphenolic acid”, underlining the promising production of diphenolic acid in the presence of catalysts derived from biomass. The research units in Bologna and in Milano presented their accomplished results in the oral presentation “Catalytic transfer hydrogenation of levulinate esters with ethanol over Zr-based catalysts under continuous flow conditions” towards the production of γ-valerolactone in the presence of new catalytic systems. Meanwhile, the research unit in Milano showed the study on the catalytic trasnsfer hydrogenation of levulinic acid and levulinic ester in batch reactor with the poster presentation “Zirconia materials for (bio)alcoholic dreams: catalytic tools for lognocellulose valorisation”. Finally, the research unit of Salerno shows the validity of LCA analysis in the oral presentation “Maleic anhydride production from renewables: a life cycle assessment at pilot scale”.

The conference offered the opportunity to discuss the latest developments in green & sustainable chemistry, to expand existing realtions and to establish new ones among academia and industry, and to disseminate the philosophy and principles of sustainable development and circular (bio)economy. The topics of the 6th EuChemS Conference covered the broader field of green chemistry and technology with more emphasis on sustainable catalytic and synthetic processes, biomass and CO2 utilization, alternative fuels and green energy, benign low-energy chemical processes, pollution prevention and remediation, green chemistry metrics and environmental assessment, sustainable industrial processes, waste recycle and valorization, and circular (bio)economy.
